A hike in the region Aquitaine

Go on the tracks around Beynac to discover one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France and its castle. This village is situated at the foot of a cliff, on a headland overhanging the Dordogne river and dominated by the castle. If you go up to the castle, you will enjoy the view over the land!


1- Go out from the car park, and take the road to the left. Leave a first road on your left, but take the second one. Continue on the street "rue du Château" up to reach a crossroads. Take the lane to the right.
2- At the end of the street "Camin del Roc", continue on the footpath up to reach a road.
3- Turn to the left. At the crossroads, turn to the right. Walk past the hamlet Le Treuil, and leave a road on your right. Go up to the hamlet of Serneix.
4- Take the left track which passes under an arch. Walk along the brook up to a road. Cross this road and take the track opposite. At the path crossing, turn to the left. Continue on the main path and take the second track on your left, which leads to a road.
5- Turn to the right and just after to the left. Leave a road on your left, and continue up to the next crossing. Turn to the right and go towards Castenet. Continue up to the crossroads in the hamlet.
6- Turn to the left towards Abrillac, and go to the third intersection. Take the left road towards a telecom mast, Go down by the left side towards two houses.
7- At the entrance of the second house, take the right path. Continue up to the hamlet Campredon.
8- Turn to the right, and go to the end of the road.
9- Pass the fence, and continue on the track up to the road.
10- Turn to the right, and go straight to get back to the starting point.

Events and information

Call for your attention. The path in the 2nd section has been fitted out for walkers safety. Nevertheless, you are advised to be careful with children.


Noteworthy places

Château de Beynac. The very first castle of Beynac goes back to the XIIth century. Richard the Lionheart and Simon de Montfort seized it during the XIIth and XIIIth centuries. This was the only once it fell. Classified in 1944 as Historic Monument, it has been restored since the current owner purchased it, in 1962. The castle can be visited (to get information about dates and fees, phone at 05 53 29 43 08).
Eglise Sainte-Marie. The church Sainte-Marie is included into the castle, and it dates from the XIII-XVIIth centuries. The church of the village (church Saint-Jacques) was destroyed in 1592.
Moulin du Pressoir. The water mill on the brook Le Trueil was used to produce wheat flour.
