Between both picturesque villages of Oingt and Theizé, extends a remarkable landscape made with a series of ridges: "Crêts" of Bansillon, of Remont, and of Theizé. You will find this hike uncommon, with some special sections as a box tree vault, "cadoles", "chirats", and beautiful houses. The village of Oingt is classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.

Noteworthy places

Oingt. The name of this village would come either from the Celtic Ico-Ney (good spring), or from Iconium (current Konya in Asia Minor), because Roman mercenaries would have come from there to found Oingt. The village was built around a feudal mound. Its chapel became parochial church in 1079. In 1173, Oingt was chosen as a military fortified town for the region. From the castle, it remains vestiges: a eight meters keep and the seigneurial dwelling. There is a very beautiful view over the southern Beaujolais from the top of the keep. The gate of Nizy is the main vestige that remains from the XIIIth century fortification.
