A hike in the region Midi-Pyrénées

A stroll between Saint-Rémy de Montpeyroux and the Castle of Bousquet. A discovery of the plateau of Aubrac, its history, leader place of the first crusades. You will enjoy the sight on Aubrac and the visit of Bousquet's castle.


1- From the centre of the village of Saint-Rémy, take the street which goes along the City hall. By-pass it. At the last houses, take the road to the right.
2- Take this road which drives to Bergounhous.
3-Take the road in front of you. At the first crossing take the road on your right-hand side. Continue on circa 350m.
4-Take the road on your left, then, some lower metres, take the road on your right-hand side. Follow this grassy path, cross the brook of Magagnou and join Lindières.
5- Take to the left, walk past Giscard's farm and continue towards woods of Fajol and Banious. Quite at the top, continue to the left and come down towards the brook of Magagnou that you cross on a rough-and -ready bridge. Continue straight ahead, take the road on your left which joins Le Bousquet.
6- Walk past the watering place and by a small path on your right-hand side, climb up to the church. Take on some metres a very sloping alley, turn to the right in a small very narrow path which allows to reach the entry of the castle. Take on your left and cross the village.
7- At the top of the hillside, take the road which rises on your left and wichh will drive you to Pinsonnac.
8- Pass between houses and the opposite road which joines road D70 below. Follow this road on approximately 150m.
9- Take the dirt track on your left, by-pass Puech de Couyoules in passing in a moor.
10-Take the road of the departure in the opposite direction.

Noteworthy places

Le Château du bousquet. Built between XIII and XIV century, this castle of granite and basalt consists of six towers crenellations and machicolation, two floors of covered ways. Note the presence of the chapel in the square tower supervised by machicolations with trilobate decorations on one side, as the shape of embrace of the other side. Inside, on both sides of the altar, we find the same inverted motives.

L'oratoire de Montpeyroux. This building is dedicated to Notre-Dame de Montpeyroux (also called Notre-Dame de la Salette or Notre-Dame des Montagnes). A pilgrimage is organized there every August 22nd.
