Nasbinals - Cascade du Déroc

From the village of Nasbinals, go to discover of Aubrac plateau. A very beautiful stroll accompanied by the song of crickets, the various colours of the wild flora and the cooling of the waterfall of Déroc. Breathe, you are in peace.

Noteworthy places

Nasbinals. It is assumed that Nasbinals village was founded in VIIIth century. In the XIth century a priory around the church testifies of a rustic community. In 1135, the priory is connected to the Aubrac monks' domain.This relation ended during the French Revolution. Nasbinals is situated on Santiago de Compostella way.

L'église. The Romanesque church was built with granite stones by Aubrac monk's during the XIIth century. It has seven round arches, a massive octagonal bell tower, and the vault of the nef in diagonal rib. Several works are classified: a coloured wooden figure of Christ dated from the XVIth century, a gold-coloured wooden reredos and, in the Virgo's, chapel a polychromatic statue from the XVIIth century.

La Cascade du Déroc. The cascade of Déroc, 32m height, was dug by the waters coming from the Lake of Salhiens. A cave was discovered under it by doctor Prunières. It is said it was used as refuge by bandits who attacked the travelers along the Roman way.

Flore de l'Aubrac. More than 1000 species of plants have been recorded, you can see Dianthus seguieri (a species of carnation), vervain mallow, winged broom, large-flowered calamint, mountain violet, poet's narcissus, butterfly orchis, globeflower, foxglove, yellow gentian and marsh gentian. On peaty areas: golden ray, cotton grass, marsh marigold and carnivorous plants as common butterwort and round-leaved sundew.
