A hike in the region Basse Normandie

The small village of Robehomme was built on a hill constituted by limestones from the Middle Jurassic which juts out above a quaternary sedimentary basin. It was once an island. In this hike, you will walk around this hill and you will discover the Dives swamps.

1- Go to the exit at the far end of Robehomme car park, and come out into the road "chemin du Faudy". Turn to the right.
2- At the intersection, turn to the left. Approximately 500 m farther, you find a long perpendicular path; turn to the left.
3- Once on the road D224, turn to the left. After a small bridge, cross a triangular junction on your left-hand side. Leave a road on your left, and continue until the next crossing.
4- Leave the road D224 and go straight ahead.
5- Take the first track on the left. After a farm on your right, the track is asphalt. Go to the crossroads.
6- Once on the road, turn to the left. At the first crossing, turn to the right.
7- Continue straight up to come back to "chemin de Faudy".
8- Same section as the first one to get back to the starting point.

Noteworthy places

Marais de la Dives. From Troarn to Cabourg, there was a large lagoon area, which was gradually drained. This phenomenon was the result of people work and also the natural filling of the Dives estuary. Since the Middle Ages, the monks of the abbey of Saint-Martin de Troarn raised dikes along the Dives, dug canals for drainage and heightened roads. This territory has been changed by human actions in the same way as Dutch polders. The area presents an ecological interest, with several species of frogs, presence of Midwife toads, water birds, with several protected species as Short-eared Owl. This area is also interesting for plants, as it presents a gradation between strictly aquatic species and grassland species.
